Eco-Friendly Wedding Dresses & Jewelry - Annatarian

Happy Earth Day everyone! Today we welcome in Anna Mikhitarian, founder of and, who believes that it is her responsibility as an artist, designer, and woman to promote positive change, embrace and create beauty, and always seek truth. Since being founded in 2001, Annatarian's eco-couture collections have been featured at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum, the Sundance Film Festival, and a special screening of An Inconvenient Truth at the Los Angeles Grand Performances with special guest Al Gore.

Read on for my interview with Anna:

What was your inspiration for creating your collections?

Beauty, Nature: the ocean, animals, trees, flowers, wind, sunsets; Music, Films, Fashion, Art, Humor, Peace and Love! This is what I want my dresses to exude- the best of all these! I also love that they are "One-of-a-kind Because You Are"  Everyone wants something that is just theirs and fits them perfectly, with how it looks and what is means to them. I also love that people fall in love with the dresses, then are surprised to find out they are eco-friendly! That was a mission of mine that has been achieved!

What is your favorite piece in your collections?

Each piece is one-of-a-kind, and has it's own beauty. I do love how different fabrics come together to create something super special. And when something has meaning and beauty, it makes it even more beautiful to me. From creating beautiful dresses that symbolize world peace by combining fabrics from countries that has been at war to making a sentimental piece that combines a few special hand me down pieces to create the ultimate red carpet gown- they all are my favorites.

What are the general price points?
The bridal dresses usually start at $900 and can go up to $2500 or more, depending on the fabrics and handwork and hours needed to go into the dress. I have been know to do trades too!  What are your skills? Graphics, web, anything may work- just ask! Who knows what we can work out! :)

Where can brides purchase your products?

Our jewelry, which have been used in the wedding ceremonies, as favors, and gifts to the bridal party, are available in stores around the country and abroad as well as on our jewelry site
The dresses are sold exclusively through us, and you can contact us by phone, 818-458-7992 or email

Eco-Friendly Wedding Dresses - Deborah Lindquist

Deborah Lindquist is one stylish lady, and she cares about the environment too! Here's my interview with this eco-friendly bridal gown designer.

What was your inspiration for creating your collections?

I wanted to offer brides creative alternatives to traditional wedding dresses. I love mixing new and vintage fabrics together to create special, one-of-a-kind and limited edition dresses. I love creating the perfect dress for the bride to look and feel beautiful on her wedding day. It's a very special day, and I want her to feel good in what she's wearing.

What is your favorite piece in your collection?

I have a couple favorites! The organic linen and vintage lace dress and a new one I just created for winter weddings (using vintage cashmere and beaded wool).

What are the general price points?

The dresses range between $850 - 3000.

Where can brides purchase your products?

On my website,, at select stores nationwide, and at my studio in North Hollywood:
5657 Lankershim Blvd
North Hollywood, CA 91602

Thanks Deborah!

Eco-Friendly Wedding Dresses - The Cotton Bride

Here it is! For Green Week, I really wanted to feature some eco-friendly vendors, particularly designers who consciously make the decision to use sustainable fabrics in their gowns.

One such designer is Chris Kole of The Cotton Bride. All of The Cotton Bride gowns are hand-sewn right here in the USA and are created with luscious blends of cotton, linen and other natural fabrics. I had a chance to interview The Cotton Bride to learn more about the inspiration for the below!

What was your inspiration for creating your collections?

I was excited at the prospect of creating a bridal line using natural fabrics but applying the same couture design standards as I use in the evening collection. I felt that there was room in the bridal market for beautifully made, natural bridal gowns that was not being addressed. I also wanted to create an alternative to the traditional wedding gown which many young brides today do not necessarily relate to and offer, instead, a collection of gowns which is more in tune with their lifestyle, values and priorities.

What is your favorite piece in your collections?

I don't have a favorite dress, per se, but when I'm working with a bride, I find myself choosing one or two styles that I feel work really well for that particular bride

What are the general price points?

n the whole, most of the gowns in the collection are now priced between 1 - 2K. We completely changed our business model beginning in January of this year. Rather than selling the collection through bridal stores, we now work and sell directly to the brides themselves - without the standard retail markups. For example, a dress that used to cost $2530 at retail, we now sell for $1495.

Where can brides purchase your products?

In the US, the collection is available exclusively through our LIC Bridal Studio, which is part of our design and workroom here in New York City.

aren't these dresses amazing? gotta love the draping!

Free Template - Will you be my groomsman?

Sometimes groomsmen are often forgotten. Perhaps it's because the guys are generally more easy-going and just say "hey, sure, why not?" to basically anything and everything. So the bride/groom forget to make a big deal out of the groomsmen...but they don't have an easy job! After all, who are the guys planning the crazy bachelor party? And don't forget that there's the best man's toast - it's gotta be funny and sweet without sounding too emotional. That is not easy stuff! So the Wedding Chicks have created a free template for a "Will you be my groomsman?" card to make the process of asking a little bit more formal and far more special.

Polaroid Love

Saw this over on Flights of Fancy, and I had to share it b/c it's a clever idea! Darci from With This Ring was guest-blogging over at FoF and put up some polaroid love. Polaroids are so old-school that it really offers a vintage feel to your wedding decor without even having to try that hard. They can easily be used for a DIY photobooth or a pictorial guestbook. Gotta love it!

Boombox Romance - Creative Engagement Shoot!

When you marry a DJ (like I did), you really learn to respect his/her passion for music and their amazing mental library of songs. This couple, who were featured over on Hi-Fi Weddings, used their love for music as the basis of their engagement shoot as well as their wedding invitation. It is pretty brilliant and the pictures came out fabulous and true to who they are.
