DIY Menu and Table Numbers

Carolyn of Two Brunettes has done it again! This time she has created these colorful floral patterned border templates over at Ruffled to easily create a set of menus or table numbers. By using the Ikea Tolsby Frame that is double-sided and only 99 cents, it would make a perfect stand for the menu/table numbers.

Bridesmaid's Dresses for Operation Prom

Have some bridesmaid dresses in the closet? Put them to good use by donating them to Operation Prom, a not-for-profit organization that helps local New York teenagers who are in need of a fabulous frock. If you live in NYC, you can drop them off at 57 Grand from March 9th through 13th. For other drop-off locations, click here!

Though not all bridesmaid dresses are re-wearable, trendy brides are definitely trying to keep that in mind as they select the design for their gals. For some ideas of how to re-wear, check out the 57 Grand website.

DIY Tulip Bulb favors

This DIY project by Project Wedding is fabulous for an April wedding or bridal shower. Tulips are such bright and bold flowers that they simply look lovely planted as a single flower. Put them atop a place setting or group them in the middle of a table to arrange a simple centerpiece.

They just look so sweet!

Money-saving tips on DIY bouquets and flowers

It's time for some money-saving tips on how to DIY lovely but easy wedding bouquets and flower arrangements. We've all seen a ton of superb ideas on the wedding blogosphere, but sometimes trying to do it yourself is not as cost-efficient as you would like. Here are some tips on how to actually save money.

Wholesale flower markets: Buy your flowers from a wholesale market and not from a middleman florist. They get their flowers from the wholesale market anyways, but they charge you a premium that is really a convenience fee. Plus, you can usually bargain with wholesalers - the more you buy, the less they will charge you per item.

Here are some wholesale markets to check out:
San Francisco Wholesale Flower Mart
Flower Market Association of New York
Los Angeles Flower District

As these are all wholesale markets and not single shops, definitely make sure you take some time to peruse through the different shops and do price comparisons. When I was planning my wedding, I found that some wholesalers were willing to negotiate more than others, so make sure you do your research!

Flower type: Pick flowers that are in season and readily available! If you don't know, ask the wholesaler - he/she will be happy to answer your questions. Or look it up on - it will tell you which flowers are specific to which months, so if you're getting married in June, pick Babies Breath, Calla Lilly, Chrysanthemums, Daisies, Hydrangea, Iris, Lillies, Roses, or Sunflowers. For what these flowers look like - check out the Ultimate Wedding Flower Guide over on

Do note that among these flower types, there are price differences as well. Babies Breath is only a couple of dollars for a bunch while Calla Lillies can price anywhere between $2-5 per stem (10 stems make a bunch). But please remember that price and beauty are not directly correlated, sometimes a full Babies Breath bouquet looks vintage and cute.

Flower volume: Bouquets and centerpieces look better the fuller they look, so for your bridesmaid bouquets and for small centerpieces, I highly recommend flowers that already come in bushels. It will be less for you to arrange and definitely more cost-effective. Check out hydrangeas, which range from $2-5 per bunch. The below picture is 2-3 bunches. Peonies are also pretty large and in charge, but they look a little fancier for an evening wedding.

Congratulations to Sweettoof studios on their launch of the new Ticings website!

After becoming a fan a few months ago, I have been awaiting the launch of this website so that I can get some for myself! The idea is so simple - you bake the canvas, the Ticings will do the rest! Now you can add just the simplest touch to make that bridal/baby shower the cutest party you've ever been to.

The instructions are just simple three steps:
1. frost your cake
2. peel the ticing
3. press onto dessert!

Crazy cake couture!

This wedding cake/bridal gown totally shocked me when I saw it this morning over at Gather and Nest via Twig & Thistle. It is an amazing checkered cake and makes me wonder how long the model had to stand there as people frosted around her...but yeah, don't try this for yourselves. That would not be sensible. Just look at it with awe and amazement but do not DIY this!
