Alicia and Matt - Bold Cultural Celebration (Part I - Ceremonies)

I have recently had the privilege to accompany my hubby to DJ an awesome wedding. The wedding was cleverly entitled the Fountain-Penn wedding (fountain pen, get it?) because of the last names of the bride and groom, and believe me, the rest of the wedding was just as good-spirited!

According to the lovely bride, the wedding schedule was jam-packed, starting at 8am with a prayer service by Buddhist monks. In total, there were 5 separate ceremonies, each with a symbolic message of union and blessings for the new couple. It was a cultural celebration that was bold and beautiful - stylishly put together by the Cambodian community in the DC area. Enjoy the pictures, taken by CarmenWangStudio.

hair: Nila Kong (Alicia's cousin)
makeup: Kira from Renaissance Salon and Spa (410)527-1175

Cambodian weddings begin with the groom and his family traveling to the bride's home bearing gifts to the bride's family as dowry. For more details on traditional Cambodian weddings, check out Alicia & Matt's wedding website

The hair-cutting and wrist-tying ceremonies follow - friends and family get involved in encouraging and blessing the newlyweds.

Traditionally seven married couples pass a candle around, blessing Alicia & Matt.

After an entire morning and afternoon, they are finally pronounced husband and wife! Stay tuned for their awesome reception.
